Pressure Cooker Recall (2020)

Your prized pressure cooker may be a ticking time bomb.

Recently SunBeam Products, the parent company of famous household appliances like the Crock-Pot, has issued a recall of nearly 1 million pressure cookers.

The recall only covers any Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cookers that were manufactured between July 2017 and October 2018 according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

SunBeam Products has issued a statement warning that the Crock-Pot Multi-Cooker can pressurize even when the lid is not properly locked. This can result in the lid detaching from the cooker while in use, causing hot food and liquid to explode from the pressure cooker.

While SunBeam Products has stated that the Crock-Pot Multi-Cooker can still be used for slow cooking and sauteing safely, the malfunction can happen when it is in pressure cooking mode. So far, there have been 119 reports of lid malfunctions, resulting in 99 burn injuries that range between first to third degree burns.

Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Owners are entitled to receive a free lid if they own the afflicted model, which should resolve any manufacturing issues.

Unfortunately, it’s not just SunBeam Products that has issued a recall for their defective pressure cookers.
