Zocor which is also known as Simvastatin slows the body’s production of cholesterol in order to prevent cholesterol deposits from building up on artery walls and blocking blood flow to the heart and brain. It is primarily prescribed to people who need to lower the amount of fatty substances like LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in their blood stream. While reducing the presence of those bad cholesterols in the blood, Zocor simultaneously increases the presence of HDL or good cholesterol. Although it is primarily prescribed for use in adults, it has also been prescribed to children between the ages of ten and seventeen who have familial heterozygous hypercholesterolemia which is a condition that prevents a body from removing cholesterol normally. In addition to patients with high cholesterol, Zocor has also been prescribed to people who suffer from blood flow problems. When used in these people, it reduces their chances of having a heart attack or a stroke.

In spite of its usefulness, Zocor is known to cause a number of potentially harmful side effects. • Having a seizure
• Gaining weight
