Zimmer NexGen Knee
Zimmer Inc. is a leader in orthopedics products and in 2007 reached almost in four billion dollars in sales. They manufacture over one hundred thousand medical devices sold in a hundred markets around the world employing thousands of people in a global enterprise. They are known for developing the Zimmer NexGen prosthetic knee implant. Patients who have surgery using this technology have been given a new hope of less pain and more flexibility. Knee replacement surgeons use cement to fuse joints together. The Zimmer NexGen Device offers the ability to be implanted without the need for cement. While other methods have been used in knee replacement with other devices, the Zimmer NexGen Knee implant has presented problems after surgery. This means costly reconstructive surgery to correct a mistake and painful recovery over a long period of time. This device fails four times more often than any other device on the market. In fact, there is a figure of almost ten percent who will suffer with a malfunction device after surgery.
In September of 2010, the FDA asked for a Zimmer NexGen Knee Recall on the minimally invasive surgery tibial components, locking screw, and stern extensions. Over 100 patients needed corrective surgery within twenty-four months after procedure was completed. In December of 2010, a Zimmer NexGen Knee Recall was given by the FDA due to an improper interlocking malfunction due to the components in various sizes that were implanted with the device. Zimmer NexGen Knee Class Action lawsuits will become arises as a result of all of the malfunction problems of the implants. Not enough research was completed to insure that fewer problems would develop after implant procedure was completed.
