Wright Profemur Hip Replacement

The Wright Profemur hip replacement has been manufactured by DePuy Orthopedics and has been used around the country as one of the primary ways to help with hip problems in the elderly. The technology is minimally invasive and uses interchangeable necks made from titanium as opposed to the standard way with a fixed neck stem. The use of these multiple parts was considered a major heap forward in the technology for artificial joints.

The problems that have come from the use of this hip replacement have caused a lot of problems in a lot of different patients. In many cases, it takes a person three years to see the effects and must then have revision surgery to correct the problems. The recall has stopped further implants from happening, however there are still a number of side effects affecting those who have already had the procedure using the Wright Profemur hip replacement.

Many class action lawsuits have been filed as a result of the pain and suffering that many have had to endure because of the procedure. Some of the data from an Australian registry hints that over 10% of the patients who have had this implant require additional surgery within three years of the initial surgery.

The use of the Wright Profemur Hip Replacement can lead to:

  • Loosing of the hip system
  • Dislocation of the hip system
  • Broken bones

Symptoms include:

  • Severe pain
  • Problems walking
  • Problems standing

The side effects of the hip replacement have been known to cause further damage to the joints, including breaking of the bones in the areas where the titanium necks were installed. These simply should not happen to a person who has undergone surgery to improve upon a situation.

If you or a loved one has had a hip replacement surgery with the use of the Wright Profemur Z hip replacement, you have probably not gotten the increased mobility that it promised. If you have suffered pain or additional problems, you need to contact an attorney. You may be able to receive compensation for your suffering and pain because of the negligence of this replacement and because of the various parts that do not sit correctly within the hip joints.

You are not to blame in this and you should not have to pay for the surgeries or medications that you’ve had to pay for because of the surgery gone wrong. You are entitled to join the class action lawsuit. By contacting an attorney, you can find out if you qualify. There is no obligation to go forward and by filling out the information or making a phone call, you can have your case reviewed for free.

[...] On Jan. 28th and Feb. 4th 2012, the Telegraph published early findings from the study of researchers at the University of Bristol on the effects of "metal-on-metal" hip replacement devices that suggest the implants could increase the risk of cancer and genetic damage. Last month the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) was advised that certain types of metal-on-metal implant could cause "systemic toxicity" in the body. Investigations in the U.S. have found that the vast majority of metal-on-metal hip implants retrieved from patients when they were replaced had shown signs of degrading. According to court documents, on Oct. 27th, 2011 Arizona resident Virginia M. Welch filed a lawsuit (No. 2:11-002113), in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, claiming that the cup in her Wright Profemur implant became loose just three years after receiving it.
