Hip Problems Have Resulted from Taking Nexium

Negligent Manufacturer to Blame for Side Effects with Nexium

If you or a loved one was prescribed Nexium to help treat gastroesophageal reflux disease or heartburn and have suffered hip problems, legal representation may be available for you.

Drug manufacturers are supposed to warn doctors and patients of the risks involved with taking their medications. Due to the negligence of Nexium, you may have had significant hip issues, including fractures, which should have never happened.

AstraZeneca is the drug manufacturer for Nexium, which is a proton pump inhibitor. It is most commonly used to treat heartburn. The drug works by blocking enzymes in the wall of the stomach that produces acid. The reduction of stomach acid, however, can make it harder for the body to absorb the necessary nutrients it needs, such as calcium.

When the body isn’t getting the necessary calcium and nutrients that it needs, it can lead to fractures and weakened bones. A British study was conducted that analyzed 145,000 users of proton pump inhibitors, which included Nexium. The results of the study were a 44 percent increase in the risk of hip fractures for patients over age 50. Long term and high dose users were also at a greater risk than those who were prescribed smaller doses.

The hip fracture side effect can be seen as a defect in Nexium. The drug company claims that this is a coincidence and that it is safe for public consumption. While no Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warnings or recalls have been issued, it may be possible to file a Nexium lawsuit in order to make AstraZeneca pay for the hip fractures that were caused by their drug.

Nexium is still available and is still being given to adults for heartburn. Those who are over the age of 50 are at the greatest risk, though it has been seen to affect others who are younger as well. If you or someone you love has experienced a hip fracture and was taking Nexium at the time, you may be entitled to financial compensation.

It’s critical that you choose a professional, experienced lawyer who knows how to navigate through the various laws and knows how to deal with drug manufacturers. This will ensure that your case is handled properly – and will help you to maximize the total financial compensation that you are owed. This will help you in regards to covering medical bills and will help with any pain and suffering that you have had to endure through the process as well.

When you speak up, you can get the attention of the FDA. When there are more cases reported, the FDA will take note. Until then, Nexium is still on the market and still being prescribed to people. This puts a lot of people at risk. By filing a lawsuit, you can help to protect others against the same pain that you have already had to go through.

You have rights and with the laws in place, you can help to bring justice to what has happened as a result of taking Nexium.
