Risperdal approved by the FDA only for treatment of schizophrenia yet doctors have been prescribing Risperdal for other behavioral disorders such as; Dementia, AAlzheimer's Disease, Delusions, Aggression and Anxiety. Recently it has been discovered additional conditions are being treated with Risperdal, including autism.
In April 2003 Johnson & Johnson made an announcement warning of Risperdal strokes. Risperdal side effects included strokes and 'stroke like' events, such as blood clots and hemorrhages.
In a Canadian warning letter, J&J cited 37 reports of stroke or stroke-like events including 16 deaths. In addition, the letter cited that two clinical trials of elderly dementia patients showed a higher proportion of strokes.
