PPH (Primary Pulmonary Hypertension) Lawsuit Information
Primary Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH), also known as Primary Artery Hypertension (PAH) is a rare lung disorder that has been associated with use of the diet drug fen phen, a medication which was taken off the market in 1997 because of it was found to contribute to valvular heart disease.
The primary symptom for PPH is extremely high blood pressure in the primary artery that feeds blood into the pulmonary system to pick up oxygen. This disease is distinguished by the fact that there is no apparent reason for the hypertension: secondary pulmonary hypertension (SPH) is the name for this type of high blood pressure for which there is a diagnosed cause.
Medical researchers have established a strong association between the use of fen-phen and PPH. There is also widespread opinion that the impact of fen-phen on the primary pulmonary artery has a long latency term. Patients who took fen phen may not see symptoms of PPH for ten or more years after they quit the diet medication.
While fen-phen was removed from the market because of its impact on the mitral valve in the heart, now it is showing delayed impact on one of the heart's primary arteries. It is possible that there may be a long latency period for some people for the valvular disease that fen-phen became notorious for as well.
If you took fen-phen and have developed cardiac problems or symptoms of arterial hypertension, talk to your doctor about your use of the diet medication and also get in touch with an attorney, as there has been a large number of liability actions against Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, fen-phen's corporate parent.
